Why Marijuana Compounds Could Eventually Replace Anti-Anxiety Meds
The recent study focused on marijuana’s potency in reducing the stress response in regular users. Stress was measured by tracking cortisol amounts in study participants’ saliva. Cortisol, the “stress hormone,” is a reliable indicator of stress; higher or lower amounts correlate closely with a person’s response to stressful situations.
The study compared the stress responses of a group of daily marijuana users to a group of non-users. The results were consistent: regular users had a “blunted” response to acute stress. In effect, their internal stress engines had been tuned down by regular exposure to marijuana.
“To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to examine the effects of acute stress on salivary cortisol levels in chronic cannabis users compared to non-users,” said Carrie Cuttler, study co-author and clinical assistant professor of psychology. “While we are not at a point where we are comfortable saying whether this muted stress response is a good thing or a bad thing, our work is an important first step in investigating potential therapeutic benefits of cannabis at a time when its use is spreading faster than ever before.”
The comment that this result is too preliminary to be called “a good or a bad thing” is well-taken (tuning down the stress response too much is likely to have both negatives and positives), but it does point to the potential for harnessing a modified version of this effect down the road.
These results pair well with findings from research showing that marijuana compounds have a distinct effect on levels of the neurotransmitter GABA, which plays a key role in the anxiety response. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter that acts as a brake on anxiety, counterbalancing the effects of excitatory brain chemicals like glutamate. Early research suggests that compounds in marijuana, particularly cannabidiol (CBD), enhance GABA’s effects with moderate downsides. (CBD has an impressive research profile in several areas, anxiety among them.)
Benzodiazepines, the mostly commonly used prescription anxiety meds, also affect GABA levels. The meds are effective at quickly delivering what users are seeking – an anxiety extinguishing calmness.
But that benefit comes at a cost. Tolerance to benzodiazepines, including Xanax and Klonopin, builds rapidly, requiring a user to take more and more of the meds to get the same effect. It doesn’t take long to develop a dependency that may not end. Instead of going through the well-documented hell of getting off the meds, many users choose to stay on them indefinitely. In addition, benzo side effects—fatigue, disorientation and mental fogginess, among others—are notoriously difficult to manage while trying to make it through the day. Overdose potential for benzos is also high, accounting for thousands of deaths in the U.S. every year.
While preliminary, the latest research suggests that the compounds in marijuana could eventually be harnessed to deliver anxiety relief with decreased dependency, fewer side effects and less overdose potential.
The early signs are promising, but this, like all possibilities for future medical uses of marijuana compounds, depends on the research continuing.

I was watching this tonight.. I hadn't watched it in many many years, it's a great revenge western saga. When men were men and women were women. Burt Lancaster Westerns are some of the best Westerns and Valdez is Coming is one of my favorite Burt Lancaster Films, far superior to John Wayne Films in my not so humble opinion.

The Left is in complete
collapse because the working class has awakened to the Left's betrayal
and abandonment of the working class in favor of building personal
wealth and power.
The source of the angry angst rippling through the Democratic Party's progressive camp is not President Trump--it's the complete collapse of the Left globally.Broadly speaking, the Left favored labor (whose rights were protected by the state) and the Right favored capital (also protected by the state)
But over the past 25 years of globalized neoliberalism, social democratic movements have abandoned labor to embrace the self-serving wealth and power offered by capital. The essence of globalization is: labor is commoditized as mobile capital is free to roam the globe for the lowest cost labor. In contrast, labor is far less mobile, and unable to shift as fluidly and frictionlessly as capital to exploit scarcities and opportunities.
Neoliberalism--the opening of markets and borders--enables capital to effortlessly crush labor. The social democrats, in embracing open borders, have institutionalized an open immigration that shreds the scarcity value of domestic labor in favor of lower cost immigrant labor that serves capital's desire for lower costs.
Globalization and neoliberal financial / immigration policies signify the collapse of the Left and the victory of capital. Now capital completely dominates the state and its cronyist structures--political parties, lobbying, campaign contributions, charitable foundations operating as pay-for-play cash vacuums, and all the other features of cartel-state capitalism.
To mask the collapse of the Left's economic defense of labor, the Left's apologists and PR machine have substituted social justice movements for economic opportunities to acquire economic security and capital. This has succeeded brilliantly, as tens of millions of self-described "progressives" completely bought the left's Great Con that "social justice" campaigns on behalf of marginalized social groups were the defining feature of Progressive Social Democratic movements.
This diversionary sleight-of-hand embrace of economically neutered "social justice" campaigns masked the fact that social democratic parties everywhere have thrown labor into the churning propellers of globalization, open immigration and neoliberal financial policies--all of which benefit mobile capital, which has engorged itself on the abandonment of labor by the Left.

Naughteeis Speaks about Obummer The Drone King and the "Commuted Jail Sentence" of Chelsea Manning, but not "Pardoned"
Chelsea Manning - Wikipedia
collateralmurder.wikileaks.org/
I just had a sleepless night thinking about Obummer the Drone Kings commuted jail sentence of Manning. Manning wasn't given a full pardon or released immediately, and must endure incarceration until May. Mannings Federal Jail Sentence; he has already served seven years of a thirty five year Federal Jail sentence and would be eligible for parole next year. Obummer in the last eight years has shown very little or no inclination for mercy, compassion or leniency for those whistle blowers that were bold or naive enough to present inconvenient truths to the public about the US government, the Bad Machine, and the Deep States war crimes, combined with the most recent revelations of DNC corruption and Crooked Hillarys rigging of the Primary's against ol spineless Judas Goat Bernie. Those who have been persecuted, tortured, prosecuted and jailed under the obummer watch, Manning has received the most harsh treatment to date. If you recall last month Assange made a statement to the effect that if Manning was pardoned he would allow extradition back to Sweden knowing that Sweden in all probability would then allow the US in turn to extradite Assange back to the US, where he would surely stand trial associated with the charges from 1917 Espionage Act. The high stakes political poker game between Assange and Obummer just got real with those words of choose and semantics, Commuted Jail Sentence vs. Full Pardon. Assange is the big fish who really humiliated the Obummer Regime, the Deep State, Crooked Hillary and the DNC, so they really would like to get their hands on Assange. Obummer didn't pardon Manning and only committed Mannings jail sentence with seven years served. A full pardon and immediate release never came to pass. Assange may have been bluffing, but we will never know for sure. One thing for sure is Assange isn't naive or dumb enough to leave the Ecuadorean Embassy and allow extradition to Sweden. Technically Assange is off the hook from his statement to allow extradition if Manning was pardoned, because he wasn't pardoned he was only given commuted jail sentence not a full pardon and immediate release. Assange knowing that if the US gets their hands on him, he in all likelihood would be tortured even worse than Manning and then after being convicted for espionage, would probably be given the death penalty. Assange is bold and has great courage and integrity, but I don't see him as someone who has a death wish.
